What is the Alternative Program unit, and who is eligible?

The Alternative Program is a specialized, high-support unit dedicated to students who have experienced challenges in traditional settings or who have significant behavioral or social-emotional needs. It is designed to be a temporary, restorative environment. Eligibility is determined through a referral and assessment process involving parents, the student's previous school, and our support staff.

How does Lovira Academy support students with high needs or past trauma? A: We implement a full Trauma-Informed Practice (TIP) framework school-wide. This includes:

  • A focus on Safety, Trustworthiness, and Collaboration in all interactions.

  • Integrating mental health resources and Behavior Support directly into the classroom as needed.

  • Utilizing restorative practices for discipline rather than purely punitive measures.

If a student is placed in the Alternative Program, is the goal for them to return to the traditional school environment at Lovira Academy?

Yes, the Alternative Program is designed for restoration and reintegration. The goal is always to equip students with the necessary coping, self-regulation, and academic skills to successfully transition back to a traditional setting. Lovira will be ready for all students to support all students as they transition to the traditional setting within our school, welcoming them with excitement and care.

Is transportation provided?

We are still working on providing the answer to this. We hope to be able to provide transportation, but it will depend on funding sources and grants available.

What is the discipline philosophy at Lovira Academy?

Our philosophy is Restorative. We view behavior as communication. Instead of focusing solely on punishment, we focus on debriefing incidents, understanding the root cause, and building social skills so students can repair harm and learn from mistakes. We strive to maintain a unified adult front to ensure consistent and fair application of expectations.
